Golf clubs are a very personal thing, especially if you are starting to measure yourself with a handicap and it goes into the single digits or beyond. My wife and I are recreational players (maybe go out 5-10 times a year). We already have a full 13/16 piece boxed club set we bought several years ago. Mine is a Bear graphite set, my wives’ is a Slazenger graphite men’s set since she is 5’10” and most women’s sets are made for smaller profiled people.First of all, for those of you who see the name Strata, this is a sub brand of Callaway, but by no means are these Callaway clubs. Strata was one of the brand names that were licensed by Spalding & Top Flite, Callaway held onto that trademark, and now are using it to sell boxed sets. This is a great starter set for the beginner to intermediate golfer who wants a forgiving set of clubs that are light. This is probably not good for more advanced players or people that have extremely strong strings. (Note, as of this writing there is some confusion in the product description, which indicates these are women's clubs, but they are men's clubs.) Current Amazon description says shipping weight is 12 pounds, but it's actually closer to 20. The set in the bag is about 12 pounds. And speaking of the bag, it's very nice -- well-made with 5 pockets and a cooler pocket, self-standing and a comfortable strap.The clubs themselves are designed with forgiveness in mind, with large sweet spots and great balance. The putter is my new favorite -- great balance and feel. The Callaway website has the weight per club if you are interested -- just trust me, they are light. I've always lived within a couple of miles of one golf course or another, and so it seems that it's the natural order of things that I'll get invited to play at least once a year. I don't play enough to drop serious golfer cash on a set, but over the years I've grown tired of having to borrow a set or rent the bowling shoe equivalent of a set of clubs on those infrequent occasions. It seems my solution has been found in this Callaway Strata Plus set.There is no denying that this set is a starter set.
